Bio

Dr. Juan C Avendano is the Director of the Center for Advance Manufacturing and Innovative Design at Florida Institute of Technology (Florida Tech), Melbourne, FL. Dr. Avendano holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Systems Engineering and has published works in the development of data acquisition techniques and parametric representation of structural loading and surface defects for bridges. In addition, he holds a Master of Science in Systems Engineering, a Master of Science in Engineering Management, and a bachelors degree in Aerospace Engineering.

Dr. Avendano has several years of teaching experience as an instructor at the Florida Institute of Technology. He has taught several courses, including the decision and risk analysis, systems modeling and simulation, and several introductions to engineering courses such as mechanical engineering and aerospace practicum.

Before joining Florida Tech as a director, Juan worked for several years in industrial SCADA systems and Product development. Juan has also managed several local nonprofits dedicated to technical education and industrial prototypes for new projects and startups, which gave him extensive knowledge of rapid manufacturing techniques and AGILE software development.

His academic research focuses primarily on Smart Structures, Structural Health Monitoring, machine learning techniques for structural health analysis, and advanced manufacturing techniques.
